HOW?

i know i'm gonna have people read this blog post and disagree with me, make excuses, possibly not want to come back here, but this is worth it. so far, my blog has pretty much been an "online scrapbook" with pictures of our family for out of state family and friends as well as for us to look back at. i've held back from getting political...but, i can't keep my opinions to myself about this subject...just to let those of you who care to know...i will NOT be voting for Barack Obama. i just watched a video that made my heart pound (still is) and got my adrenaline pumping. i probably shouldn't be blogging about this "compulsively", but i am. anyways, i don't trust Obama and the things he is "for"...i am not. when i saw this video today, it made me sick. i don't understand how anyone could vote for him and have a guilt-free conscience (unless you are pro-abortion. i don't use the term pro-choice, it spins it into a positive). i don't understand why SO many people are acting like he's this wonderful person who's gonna change our country (for the better) if he becomes our president. i just don't get it...that's all. i've heard people say things like, "you can't let your entire decision on who you're voting for depend on your pro-life/pro-abortion opinion". oh yeah...well, i will...that alone is a deal breaker for me. it's unfathomable to me that anyone who has seen their child's sonogram can deny that that's a person who is created in the image of God who has rights and value and life and a purpose and who DID NOT ask to be conceived. i will never forget the day our girl's were born...the way they trusted us with their lives and to see these innocent babies (in the video) left to die alone in a dark utility room breaks my heart. to me, the position that someone takes on the most helpless in our world tells a lot about the way they will make decisions, govern and their general spiritual view point. i can't support someone who thinks of our unborn children as a soul-less mass of tissue.
anyways...i just pray that christians (especially), think really hard before November 4th rolls around, because the choice we make on who we vote for makes a big difference. it is our job to protect these innocent babies.

and i know Obama's gonna have some major questions to answer one day.
i'm not being sarcastic...if you are for Obama, i'd really like to know your reasons.

Ugghhh. I had to stop watching in the middle of the video. I was literally feeling sick. I cannot believe people do not know the truth about what really happens in the abortion industry. I totally agree with you that this is a deal-breaker. My blog is pretty much a scrapbook too but I like that you got deep. I can't seem to make that leap...too vulnerable. But I love that you did. :)

I stumbled upon your blog and have to say I agree with you 100 percent! I wish people would open their eyes to see for themselves rather than just doing as they're told by the media. I couldn't stop crying watching this video. I have 3 small girls and our twins were born at 35 weeks and needed the NICU to survive, I couldn't imagine someone not helping them. It's disgusting. Thank you for being brave enough to share your thoughts!

That is pretty bad. Especially since Obama was born out of a crisis pregnancy. He of all people should be sympathetic to the unborn.

Like you my blog is a scrapbook of our life to share, I haven't yet talked about anything "deep". I applause you for talking about this. You are not alone in feeling this way about Obama, I too am pro-life and I have actually seen this video before, I was so ill and disgusted, just know that your not alone in your feelings. Your blogger friend~ Sarah

I was just talking to my MIL about this...I really can't believe the decisions he has made, and the support he is getting especially from the Christian community. There are many reasons he will not get my vote, but Pro-abortion is one of them...thank you for taking the time to post this!

I didn't watch the video yet, BUT I can say that from the start I have not trusted Obama. He makes me soooooo nervous. I just get this horrible feeling deep in the pit of my stomach when I hear him talk, read something, or just see him. It's very odd, but it's a feeling and a BAD ONE. I've talked to a few people who get this same feeling. Something is creepy and not good about this guy, who seems to have somehow made a lot of people believe in him. I'm scared!

It's a deal breaker for me too. I like some of his environmental policies, but I have to value human life as a priority. I haven't seen the video (probably couldn't handle it) but if it's referring to Gianna, I heard her on Focus on the Family once and it blew my mind. Not to mention the fact that my daughter's name is Gianna too!

I completely agree.. I am very strong on my beliefs about abortion and cannot support it in any way. That video was intense - how could you not do something as a nurse? That's what kept running through my mind.

I don't follow all of this as closely as I should, but this is a huge issue for me too. I don't know a whole lot about B.O., but I just don't like the guy. I get a bad feeling from him. I fully agree about a little tiny baby being a person, a human LIFE. Are you familiar w/Palin's views on the subject though? She is the absolute opposite, and I don't agree w/that either. Even for CHILDREN raped, she is anti-abortion. There are sickos out there, and children are raped every single day in this country, and with McCain/Palin elected, CHILDREN will be further traumatized by giving birth!

Thanks for this post!

I understand your passion, being a mom it's hard not to. You mentioned that the Abortion issue is a deal breaker and it used to be for me as well, but there are an abundance of issues that come into play. One I struggle with, "is the life of a child more important than the lives of our troops?" They are dying daily. Millions of mothers are losing their sons and daughters to the conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan. I believe that B.O. will do more to bring them home then McCain. I know it isn't black and white since the soldiers willingly enlisted and the unborn don't have a choice in the matter, but it's tough. Also I believe as a follower of christ we are obligated to care for the poor, widows, and orphans. I haven't found the republican party to do a whole lot of that in general. Its a the platform for the self-made, pull yourself up by your bootstraps type of ideology. I wish there was more thought given to those without a lot of choices or resources. Ok that's my 2 cents. I'll get off my soap box now.

hi anonymous commenter~ i appreciate your opinion...here's what i think about some of what you said...i DO appreciate what our troops are doing for us, but like you said, they did willingly enlist in the military. also, i know that we've had a lot of military casualties, but in the last FIVE years, there have been a little over 4,000 military troops die whereas, EVERY DAY there are 3,000 abortions performed. i also agree with you that we are obligated to care for the poor, widows & orphans...and in a way i can't help but think if we encouraged these women who want abortions to have the baby and give him/her up for adoption, the child would be an orphan until they were adopted by someone (did that make sense?).

p.s.~also, thank you to everyone for your opinions.

way to go shan- i love that you made this post. that video was so absolutely appalling...in my often naivete i had no idea that sort of thing really happens. i'm blown away- i hope that video reaches every american. it's very discouraging to me that we live in such a democratic state- where in this election it appears that hollywood is making up citizens minds for them and the people are just ignorantly going along with the "star" candidate without closely looking into his background and what he really stands for.
i pray that McCain wins this election.

p.s. shan our web address changed a little bit so that may be why you've had trouble commenting on our blog. update it to this- http://web.me.com/simonandkristen/

You pointed out that there are 3,000 abortions performed daily. What is the root cause of this? Are there programs out there to inform, to teach, to help women BEFORE they get to the point of needing an abortion? What about working at that end? Are the Republicans doing that now? No. Instead of advocating legislation to impose your views on others, society needs to make CHANGES. Something needs to CHANGE so that 3,000 abortions a day are not performed. Making abortion illegal will not mean that women won't become pregnant with unwanted pregnancies; that is where the efforts need to be focused. And truly, making a judgment about Obama having to answer questions some day is not very Christian unless you live in a glass house.

to "anonymous": we'll all be answering questions one day. i don't think she was implying anything otherwise. and i don't think you saying "needing an abortion" carries any real weight unless you're talking about cases where getting one would save the life of the mother - even then i've heard of many cases where the mother would gladly give their life in exchange for the life of their child - my sister being one of them. please don't say "need" if you mean "it would make things more convenient if an abortion was done". absolutely we should be working on changing our hearts to make better decisions so as to not have unwanted pregnancies. and i don't remember reading in shannon's post about legislating anything - just that the attitude of someone advocating abortion so strongly brings questions about how he would lead in all areas. i don't think abortion will ever be outlawed by either party. i do think it should be mandatory that pregnant women considering an abortion at least be required to get a sonogram before they do one so they understand what they are about to do. also, i think the Planned Parenthood viewpoint should be balanced with another viewpoint. if you don't already know, they tend to pressure and push their agenda pretty hard on scared, impressionable girls... and i don't think shannon's trying to defend the republicans either... they've been terrible in so many areas (IMO)... she's only speaking about something on her heart so please think before you jump to conclusions about her politics. seems to me that this post was more about a moral belief than a political belief.... who are we to say that abortion is a political topic and not a moral topic? we happen to believe when an abortion is performed, an innocent life is being taken away regardless of politics. that is extremely significant. isn't it? unfortunately, it's difficult to have a rational discussion about this, but let's try... if you have a differing viewpoint, you don't need to come in as anonymous, we'll still like you, i promise.
