Family Night #1: Back to School for Kaia

Okay, so we tried this "family night" thing that i got from heather & jacinda for the first time tonight & it was a lot of fun (and a lot of work, but worth it). i think it will be a great memory for the girls growing up doing this every week (or, at least trying to :). so...here are a BUNCH of pics from our attempt at it tonight...
since kaia starts pre-k on monday, we decided to make it a "back to school" theme...so, we started off by the girls making these paper bag puppets (with school lunch bags in mind). i thought they were actual "lunch bag" size but they were much smaller. oh well, they had fun :)
here's kaia working hard on hers...
and here's leia's finished product (notice that she had a one-eyed dog) ha!
leia's helping me make the cake since she finished her puppet so quickly....
i was trying to make a healthy "school cafeteria" style meal...they LOVE corn!
while dinner was cooking, we had the girls do a colored-pencil scavenger hunt (i kinda copied you heather)...
they loved running around the house finding the little note clues!
then, when dinner was ready, kaia went to pick out one of her new school outfits to put on for dinner...
here she is all ready to go...even with an apple for the teacher! :)
here's the menu (yes i wrote that...hey, i was writing with the girls big fat sidewalk chalk)
if you can't tell...i used alphabet noodles to make the mac-n-cheese with...
might as well learn while you eat, huh?
we did "cafeteria style" serving...
enjoy!
oh yea...and they got to have strawberry milk tonight (isn't that a school thing?)
here's kaia just being kaia...my sweetie!
believe it or not...leia pretty much ate that whole thing!
yummy!

then...the last craft was to make friendship bracelets. didn't every girl used to do that with your friends in school? i did.
here's kaia's on leia...
and leia's on kaia (they weren't so sure about giving each other their bracelets at first :)

awwwww...
and, here's the "chalk board cake" (more like dry erase board cake)...and no, leia's not starting pre-school but i felt bad leaving her name off the cake. now that i look at it again...it looks like i drew 2 roads on the cake...oh well! :)

p.s.~i think i already have another "family night" idea for next week"!!!
