yes...that is an actual picture i just took tonight, about 10 minutes ago. i had never seen a black widow until i moved to california 7 years ago & this is the biggest one i've EVER seen. you can't really tell from this picture, but this one's diameter was literally like 2 inches across. how do they make it look so cute on Charlotte's Web???

i have arachnophobia (sp?). this totally freaks me out. i'd make kristen kill it.
simon, i know...derek and i both are babies when it comes to things like this, but derek did say "babe, you kill it". i can't stand smushing black widows though cuz of the popping sound it makes. i was going inside to get the bug spray & it crawled into a vent, so now i keep thinking it's in the house and on me. oh yea, did i mention that there were 2 smaller ones above this one. ewwww.
Oh you're crazy. I would have totally smashed it, I don't care what kind of sound it made. Usually I make a scream or something to disguise the squishing sound. There is no way I could sleep knowing something like that is crawling in the vent. Sorry, comforting thought, I know! Next time just smash it girl!
i think the louder the pop the better. my fear is that i'll go to smash it and trip or drop the shoe, then it will wrap me up in it's thread and suck me dry. and i'd deserve it too.
the other morning i encountered one on the path in front of our house and i found a rock and stood above it and dropped the rock on it's head. i think it was it's head, but it was a photo finish. it died and i get to keep all my blood. YES!
hi denise, it's not oly the sound, you can actually feel it pop under whatever it is your using to smash it, also it wasn't on a flat surface & i could picture something like what simon described happening (good one, simon). however, if we didn't have bug spray i for sure would have smushed it for the safety of my innocent little girls.:) oh, and derek assured me that the vent it crawled into was not one that comes inside...mabye just the fireplace. man, i seriously about to put a fire in the fireplace last night. 80* weather and all!

I seriously feel your pain.
Man Shan, that would make me scream like a little girl! that thing is hideous! I feel your pain. whenever I lose a spider in the house, I always imagine it in bed with me. AHHHH. thanks for the encouragement over the past month or so. It really helps to know that you'all have gotten through this tough part and can offer advice!
